If x ? 500, then c(x) = 4.75x
If x > 500, you still pay $ 4.75/ft² for the first 500 square feet, but you get a price break on the flooring you buy that is in excess of 500 ft².
The number of ft² that you get at the lower price is (x – 500), assuming x > 500. The cost of this flooring is 4.5(x – 500)
So if x > 500, you pay
c(x) = 4.75*500 + 4.5(x – 500)
which simplifies to
c(x) = 4.5x + 125
Your graph starts at (0,0); it starts as a line segment connecting (0,0) with (500, 2375) (the equation is y = 4.75x). For x > 500, it is a ray through the point (500, 2375) with slope 4.5 (specifically, y = 4.5x + 125, but again, this is only for x > 500).
